About Our Company: Founded in 2012 by a food systems professor from the Midwest and a fisherman from Sitka, Alaska, Sitka Salmon Shares is now one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing community-supported fisheries (CSF). Modeled after community-supported agriculture (CSA), we provide high-quality, traceable seafood, with a purpose, to thousands of home cooks in the Midwest and beyond. We source our fish from our network of fishermen-owners through our fish plant in Sitka as well as through partnerships with small-scale fishermen in other parts of the state. Our company is built on the values of supporting small-boat, family fishermen in Alaska, and cultivating healthy and responsible food systems in the places we live, work, fish, and play.

About The Position: Sitka Salmon Shares, a growing, and unique values-driven seafood company seeks a well-rounded test kitchen professional with editorial experience to create and curate delicious and inspiring recipes and other culinary content that supports multiple customer-facing platforms. Currently, we are building a state-of-the-art culinary facility in Madison and are looking for a growing team of culinary professionals to advance our offerings and elevate our culinary leadership.

CORE POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, edit, and test recipes and other culinary content for distribution across platforms, i.e. website, social media, newsletters, and videos
  • Manage day-to-day test kitchen operations. This may include placing and receiving orders; overseeing test kitchen staff (as applicable); hiring temp support staff during heavy cooking days, photo shoots, and special events; maintaining the smooth running of kitchen and equipment
  • Assist Communications and Community team as needed to create and/or coordinate food content with an eye towards member engagement
  • Liaise with culinary director and Communications & Community team to coordinate special events, such as cooking demonstrations, cooking classes, community events/sponsorships, and press events
  • Develop, support, and participate in cooking demonstrations, cooking classes, and special events exclusively for our members
  • Support the culinary director with any culinary, operational, or administrative tasks aligned to the culinary vision and strategy
  • Assist in other duties and special projects as needed by the culinary director or chief officer of Communications & Community

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. with culinary degree/certificate preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in consumer-facing recipe development. Experience producing content for national publications and platforms desired
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully supervise a test kitchen, including managing multiple schedules of deliverable material
  • Passion for local food, community, environmental stewardship, with a strong desire to learn more about fisheries and seafood
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and apply that learning to fine-tune content creation to appeal to a wide range of audiences
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to customize based on the outlet
  • Demonstrated experience in fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environments with a willingness to work flexible hours with tight deadlines
  • Self-starter, natural problem solver, with a positive attitude, and ability to work independently with guidance as needed
  • Good collaborator enjoys participating in and leading brainstorming sessions to drive a culinary strategy forward
  • Ability to explain and instruct cooking to a wide range of cooks (novice to advanced)
  • Calm under pressure, good sense of humor, ability to take direction and recipe critiques
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and dependability

JOB SCOPE AND COMPENSATION:

  • Full-time position, with the expected weekly workload of 40 hours including some nights and weekends, depending on deadlines and projects.
  • Yearly reviews will be done to assess position and pay.
