About Our Company:   Founded in 2012 by a food systems professor from the Midwest and a fisherman from Sitka, Alaska, Sitka Salmon Shares is now one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing community-supported fisheries (CSF). Modeled after community-supported agriculture (CSA), we provide high-quality, traceable seafood, with a purpose, to tens of thousands of home cooks.  We source our fish from our network of small-boat fishermen-owners and partners and also process fish at our plant in Sitka, Alaska. About this Position: Sitka Salmon Shares, a growing, and unique values-driven seafood company seeks a team member ready to make a change in our seafood system. This position will advance the company’s goal of being a leading food brand committed to environmentally-friendly, quality-focused, socially-responsible seafood. The Impact Manager will lead and support projects including carbon neutrality, B-Corps certification, and deployment of the company’s 1% to the Wild Fund. This position will forge important partnerships and help the company communicate its impact with various stakeholders and audiences including our members. 

 

Core Position Responsibilities: 

  • Working with the chief fisheries officer, develop relationships and implement strategies to effectively deploy the company’s 1% to the Wild Fund to generate positive impacts on Alaska fisheries and oceans. 
  • Play a lead role in advancing the company’s goal to become carbon neutral; including procuring and analyzing company data, advocating for strategies to reduce our carbon footprint, purchasing carbon offsets, working across departments, etc. 
  • Advance the attainment of other certifications or best practices at the company as they relate to social responsibility and environmental impact, including B-Corps certification. 
  • Work closely with the communications team to develop materials and implement strategies that inform and engage our members on our impact. Lead the development of an annual impact report. 
  • Support the development and tracking of metrics related to the company’s social and environmental performance.
  • Collaboratively develop and support impact-driven projects with the fisheries team and the company’s fleet of fishermen. 
  • Monitor and maintain knowledge of important fisheries/ocean conservation issues and those that impact small-boat fleets, supporting the company’s advocacy and engagement. 

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant field. 
  • Experience working in Alaska fisheries, coastal communities, fisheries/ocean conservation, and/or food systems advocacy desired. 
  • Demonstrated skill and ability for writing that is accessible to the general public.
  • Influential, collaborative, professional demeanor.
  • Ability to conceptualize and develop project ideas. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects with multiple players. 
  • Intermediate or advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Alignment with the social and environmental values of the company. 
  • Ability to travel across coastal Alaska, and occasionally to lower-48 or other destinations (when COVID-19 conditions allow). 
  • Ability to work nights/weekends during meetings, travel periods, or times of heavy workload.
