Modeled after community supported agriculture (CSA), we provide high-quality, traceable seafood, with a purpose, to tens of thousands of home cooks. We source our fish from our network of small-boat fishermen-owners and partners, and also process fish at our plant in Sitka, Alaska. About The Position: Sitka Salmon Shares is looking for a seasoned accounting professional who is organized and administratively sound to join our team in Madison, Wisconsin. Working closely with the Accounting Manager and other key team members, the candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting cycle and have the drive and flexibility to help evolve the accounting systems of this fast growing company.

 

CORE POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compile and analyze financial information.
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Prepare month-end closings
  • Balance sheet analysis
  • Provide support to management regarding finance matters
  • Accounts payable including email correspondence and ACH management
  • Expense reimbursements
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Bank deposits
  • Reconciliation of bank and credit card statements
  • Preparation of Payroll for submission to payroll provider including commissions.
  • Regulatory compliance reports including but not limited to US fisheries returns, sales and use tax returns.
  • Review vendor information to prepare 1099s
  • Performs year-end close out of accounts and assists in the preparing of year-end financial reports and tax returns
  • Other duties as assigned

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in Accounting or equivalent.
  • 5 years’ experience in progressively challenging accounting roles.
  • Cost accounting in distribution and manufacturing
  • The ability to prioritize and work independently
  • Detail-oriented, possess excellent organizational skills and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in multi-company consolidations
  • Ability to bring “Best Practices” to Sitka Salmon Shares.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, specifically Excel is required.
  • Strong understanding of QuickBooks; ability to migrate to more advanced platforms.
  • A passion for local food, community, environment, and sustainability is a must.
  • Willingness to get your hands dirty and learn all aspects of a small business to help Sitka Salmon Shares grow and prosper.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, bank statements, and accounting regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate to managers and other employees of the organization. Spanish is a plus.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as account balances, appropriate tax, discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
